COOPERATIVES & FEDERATIONS
(Development Program for Cooperatives and Federation)
Cooperatives are community-based people’s organizations organized to initiate restoration and rehabilitation in communities devastated by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. These became the channels for assistance and support of partner institutions, agencies and groups. Cooperatives of similar and complementary work were later consolidated into a federation.
64 primary cooperatives were organized; two federations of farmers and multi-purpose cooperatives were later formed. With legal identities, these became SACOP partners in restoration, rehabilitation and development.
Work with them has included:
- The rehabilitation of 64 severely damaged barangays pronounced safe from the onslaught of lahar and floods. This has included the rebuilding of the community structures, the development of health and social services and the re-development of the local economy.
- Federations have been formed in two areas – in Porac there is a federation of primary multi purpose cooperatives; in Arayat, Candaba and San Luis there is a federation of multi-purpose cooperatives of farmers.
